Coming Soon: You’re Not Broken: Understanding and Thriving with Knee Osteoarthritis- My Next Book
I’m excited to share something I’ve been quietly working on for a long time.
I’ll be releasing a new book later this summer. It is written specifically for people living with knee arthritis or considering a knee replacement. I will share it here on Substack.
If you missed my first book, Longevity Simplified, you can find it here.
I’ve learned a lot from treating tens of thousands of patients over the last few decades. I’ve seen the fear ruin some people, and I’ve seen others curtail activities that would have been beneficial to their knees and overall health. I’ve seen people undergo surgery too soon, and many, too late. I think I have a good handle on the fears and drivers of decision-making in this context. I’ve had these conversations thousands of times… and it’s time to share them.
Rather than waiting until everything is published all at once, I’ll release the book one chapter at a time, week by week, exclusively for paid subscribers.
This is for you or someone you know who is navigating knee arthritis, considering surgery, or wants to better understand the journey ahead.
What the Book Will Cover
This book is built on the same foundation as everything I share with you here:
Evidence-based information
Practical advice
Gentle encouragement
Empowering you to make informed decisions about your health
Here's a preview of what we'll walk through together:
What knee arthritis is — and why it's not just about "wear and tear."
How to manage arthritis without surgery — including exercise strategies, weight management, and understanding when imaging matters (and when it doesn't).
Common myths and misconceptions — like "my knee is bone-on-bone" or "running caused my arthritis."
How strength, balance, and mindset influence outcomes
Do you have to stop running?
What types of exercises should I be doing?
How your overall health determines progression and pain with arthritis.
Real patient stories — because sometimes hearing someone else's journey can make all the difference.
What to anticipate when contemplating a knee replacement — ways to prepare both physically and mentally. Each chapter builds on the previous one, providing a clear, hopeful, and realistic guide whether you're years away from surgery or preparing at this moment.
Choosing the right surgeon and approach, as well as how to spot red flags during the process.
What recovery looks like — day by day, week by week.
Why I'm Releasing It on Substack
Information about our health, especially something as life-changing as knee arthritis or replacement surgery, should be personal.
Not overwhelming. Not discouraging.
Substack allows me to share this with you directly, without filters, distractions, or gatekeepers.
It also allows me to take a different approach:
Slow down. Deliver one chapter at a time.
Give you space to read, absorb, reflect, and ask questions if you need to.
Paid subscribers will receive each chapter every week, before the full book is made available to the general public later on—- about one year after publication here.
If You’d Like to Follow Along
If you're already a paid subscriber — thank you. You’re all set.
If you're not yet, and this sounds like something you or someone you care about might benefit from, you can subscribe below. This way, you’ll be the first to know when the first chapter drops later this summer.
I can't wait to share this with you.
Helping people move better, feel better, and take control of their health has always been my goal.
This book is another step in that journey — and I’m thrilled to have you along for it.
Talk soon,
Howard
This is exactly what I need.... I've got bad knees, doctor essentially says "bone-on-bone = replacement." I say no way! and doing all I can to put it off as long as possible... but there's a chapter on the hazards of putting surgery off too long? That chapter will be a must read for me!
