As a master athlete, I believe that aging does not limit potential as much as it refines it.
Every decade of life brings changes. Some are obvious, while others are more subtle. Starting around age 35, we begin to see the following changes:
VO₂ max declines. That’s the maximum amount of oxygen we can use per minute.
Maximum Heart rate diminishes.
Recovery takes longer.
Strength/power is harder to maintain.
Lose muscle mass/strength/power/balance- starts around age 35 and accelerates after 50.
The message most people hear is that these changes are inevitable and unstoppable.
As a master athlete, I reject that idea.
Aging is real.
Adaptation is powerful.
Training, recovery, and resilience can modify the slope of decline.
They can protect and enhance what matters most — strength, power, endurance, and vitality.
We are not defined by what changes.
We are defined by how we respond.
